Drugs – a real problem!

As with many poverty stricken communities there are acute problems with the abuse of alchohol and drugs.
High levels of crime and violence together with high rates of teenage pregnancy are all results of this.
In October our football league helped to organise a march against drugs around the whole community to communicate that we want a [...]

Boys Toys!

The school where we carry out much of our football program has a football pitch that has been overrun by giant weeds and plants. It has meant we have been unable to play on the pitch for more than a year, despite requests for help to many companies and other organisations.
During the xenophobia troubles Andy [...]

In July we had a great team visit from USA. We were able to get them involved in serving many of the projects here that we support. Thanks gang – you were GREAT!

The directory proved to be an invaluable resource in helping them to decide which organisation to make a [...]

High school highs!

One of the projects we have come across locally is Ukuthasa (Xhosa meaning is “to encourage”. They are now part of the local Connect Network. We have been really impressed by what they are doing amongst the high schools in the area.
In essence they have targeted an initial five schools and are working with 30 [...]

Spending some quality time

One of the initiatives from Connect Network (one of the organisations we work with for one day a week) is “QIS” (Quality Improvement Scheme) which we are helping to pilot until the middle of 2006 with eight local organisations.
The project is specifically starting with just two modules – staff care and child protection. There are [...]

HOW2HELP

“HOW2HELP” is now up and alive. There have been all sorts of challenges to get the project off the ground but it has been well worth the effort.
It’s a combination of a paper based directory which is issued together with a DVD of some of the projects featured.
There is also a website with all the [...]
